The Board of Directors is sad to report that Alice Gayley, the Vice President of PA-Roots passed away on August 11, 2015. Alice and Nathan Zipfel began PA-Roots in 1998 as a resource for Pennsylvania county pages they were involved with. Alice was the co-host for Jefferson and Armstrong counties in those early days. Alice went on to develop the Clearfield county website and began her Pennsylvania in the Civil War website http://www.pa-roots.com/pacw/ Her website has been a very valuable resource for individuals researching their Civil War Ancestor. Alice’s contribution to Pennsylvania and Civil War research has been invaluable. She was a friend and valued member of PA-Roots and will be greatly missed. Alice Jane Gayley, age 76, of Brookville, PA, passed away in Pittsburgh, PA, on Tuesday, August 11, 2015. 

She was born on September 30, 1938, in Brookville, PA, to David T. and Violet Gayley; both precede her in death. She worked as a government contractor doing computer programming throughout her career. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Brookville, PA. She was an avid reader and loved history, especially the era of the civil war.

She is survived by her brother David Gayley of Santa Cruz, CA; numerous nieces and a nephew. In addition to her parents, a sister and a brother precede her in death.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, August 18, 2015, from 9am-2pm, at the McKinney-d’Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA, 15825. A funeral service will be held the same day, beginning at 2pm also at the funeral home, with the Rev. Nathan Royster officiating. Interment will take place at Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Eldred Twp., Jefferson Co.
