 The ledgers and journals of some merchants and physicians of this period sometimes had notations of location and relationships alongside the entry of their client’s name. The dates are the year the patient was first treated by the doctor. Original spellings are used and abbreviated names are spelled out when possible.

p. 59: 1775 William Ponty — next door to the Widow Forrests; 1770 John Smith — Shoemaker in Walnut Street; 1774 James King — Merchant in Arch street; 1780 James King — Merchant married Miss Adams — now lives in Walnut Street
