    The father of Josiah Thompson is unknown as of this writing. Inasmuch as Josiah was born mid-1820s a search was made in the 1830 census for any Thompsons in the Berks County area who were registered as having a 0-5 year old son in the prior decade. Two names appeared, Mary Ann (either unmarried, widowed, or divorced) of South Ward, Reading, PA., and Henry of Gibraltar, Cumru Township, Berks County, PA.

    Josiah’s obituary in 1895 states he was born in Spring Township. However, when he was born in late 1824 there was no Spring Township, and that area was part of Cumru Township. Thus, Josiah (and parents) spent their early lives in Cumru Township.

    Based on this, Henry Thompson is deemed to be the father of Josiah Thompson.
