In 1718, members of the English Friends from North Wales in Philadelphia County, settled in Oley Township. Meeting were held in the homes of George Boone Sr. and Anthony Lee. In 1737, a log Meeting House was built. In 1750, a stone building was erected.
The first interment in the Exeter Meeting burying ground was that of John Hughes who died Oct. 10, 1736 at the age of 84. By 1817, the burying ground was filled. As no additional land could be purchased, ground was hauled in and filled to a depth of four feet and a second tier of graves was begun. There are no headstones or markers on the graves.
