FUNERALS

 

Albert
Wilson STRAUSS, son of Adam H. and his wife Alice V., nee HENNE, was born Feb.
28, 1886, in Upper Tulpehocken township, and was baptized April 11, 1886, by
Rev. Eli Hiester.  He was confirmed Nov. 16, 1902, by Rev. Pflueger in Zion
Church.  On April 15, 1905, he was married to Martha B. MILLER by Rev.
Pflueger.  He died March 31, 1922, aged 36 years, 1 month, 3 days.  He is
survived by his widow, 5 children, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and his parents. The
funeral was held in Zion church April 4.  Text: Is. 38:1.

Mrs. Sarah
Jane HOLZMAN, nee LUCKENBILL, daughter of Franklin LUCKENBILL and his wife,
Priscilla, nee BERTRAM, was born June 5, 1870, in Bernville, and was baptized
Sept. 4, 1870, by Rev. Leinbach.  She was confirmed April 18, 1885, in Zion
church by Rev. Leinbach. She was married to C.P. HOLZMAN, Dec. 7, 1916, By Rev.
E.S. Leinbach,  She died April 14, 1922, aged 51 years, 10 months, 9 days.  The
survivors are the husband, a daughter, 4 sisters, 3 brothers, 6 grandchildren. 
The funeral took place April 18, in Zion church.  Text, Jn. 16:32-33.

Mrs.
Elizabeth BE. HOLLENBACH, nee DEGLER, daughter of John DEGLER and his wife
Elizabeth, nee BASHORE, was born Oct. 13, 1848, in Upper Tulpehocken township,
and was baptized as an adult Oct. 31, 1903, by Rev. Pflueger.  She was married
to Daniel B. HOLLENBACH July 5, 1873, by B.D. Zweizig.  She died April 23,
1922, aged 78 years, 6 months, 10 days.  Her husband, 2 sons, 7 grandchildren,
1 sister, and 3 brother survive.  The funeral was held on April 28, in Zion
church.  Text, I Pet. 5:6.

Mrs. Lovina
REBER, nee LONG, daughter of Peter LONG and his wife Elizabeth, nee HENNE, was
born July 24, 1846, in Upper Bern township, and was baptized Aug. 30, 1846, by
Rev. Schmidt.  She was confirmed in her youth in St. Michael’s church.  She was
married July 30, 1864, to Samuel B. REBER.  She died April 25, 1922, aged 75
years, 9 months, 1 day.  She is survived by 5 daughters, 3 sons, 1 sister, 24
grandchildren.  The funeral was held April 29 in Zion church.  Text, Jude
20:21.

Commodore
V. REBER, son of Jonathan REBER and his wife Sallie Ann, nee BATTEIGER, was
born May 2, 1861, at Strausstown, and was baptized June 3, 1861, by Rev.
Dietzler.  He was confirmed in 1876 by Rev. Cutter.  He was married to Diana
HENNE Sept. 26, 1885, by Rev. Fritsch.  He died May 4, 1922, aged 61 years and
2 days.  He is survived by his widow.  The funeral was held May 9 in Zion
church. Text, Rev. 14:13.

Mrs. Sarah
Ella LUTZ, nee ZERBE, daughter of George J. ZERBE and his wife Mary M., nee
ZERBE, was born Feb. 17, 1903, in Jefferson township, and was baptized April 25
[1903], by Rev. A.J. Long.  She was confirmed Oct. 19, 1918, by Pastor Klick. 
She was married April 22, 1922, to Maurice L LUTZ by Rev. Ruth.  She died May
18, 1922, aged 19 years, 3 months, 1 day.  Her husband, a son, her parents, 4
brothers and 5 sisters survive.  The funeral was held May 23, in Christ
church.  Text, Rev. 21:4.

Mrs. Agnes
C. BERTRAM, nee DeTURK, a daughter of Abraham DeTURK and his wife, Esther, nee
UNGER, was born Jan. 9, 1856, in Upper Tulpehocken township, and was baptized
in infancy.  She was confirmed April 21, 1871, by Rev. Finfrock.  On October
23, 1880, she was married to James W. BERTRAM by Rev. Finfrock.  she died may
20, 1922, aged 66 years, 4 months, 11 days.  There survive her husband, a son,
a daughter, 5 grandchildren, andd 2 great-grandchildren.  the funeral was held
May 25 in Zion church.  Text, Rom. 8:18.

Mrs. Selisa
FILBERT, nee GOODMAN, daughter of Jonathan GOODMAN and his wife Elizabeth, nee
REBER, was born Dec. 16, 1840, in Upper Bern township, and was baptized Feb.
21, 1841, by Rev. Hassinger.  She was confirmed April 25, 1857, by Rev.
Zehring.  She was married Oct 19, 1868, by Rev. Zweizig and Rev. Schwartz, to
James W. FILBERT.  She died May 20, 1922, aged 81 years, 5 months, 4 days.  Her
husband and daughter survive.  The funeral was held on May 26, with burial at
Zion church.  Text, Ps. 29: 8.

Adam Thomas
BATTEIGER, a son of John S. BATTEIGER and his wife Sarah, nee ZERBY, was born
in Upper Tulpehocken township, Dec. 21, 1869, and was baptized by Rev. Trexler
Jan. 28, 1870.  He was confirmed in Friedens Church, Bernville, by Rev.
Cressman, March 22, 1883.  He was married to Kate Rebecca HAAG, Nov. 2, 1889,
by Rev. Finfrock.  He died July 21, 1922, aged 53years, 7  months.  The
survivors are his widow, 2 daughters, 6 grandchildren, his mother, and 3
sisters.  The funeral was held July 26, in Zion church.  Text, I Thess.
4:17-18.

Adam
LENGEL, son of Daniel LENGEL and his wife Elizabeth, nee MEIER, was born May
24, 1835, in Tulpehocken township, and was baptized Aug. 11, 1835, by Rev.
Minnig.  He was confirmed by Rev. Dietzler in Zion Church.  He was married to
Rebecca MILLER Aug. 22, 1857.  On Nov. 3, 1893, he was married the second time,
to Mrs. Elizabeth REBER, by Rev. Eli Hiester.  He died Aug. 16, 1922, at
Richland, aged 87 years. 2 months, 22 days.  There are surviving 2 sons, 3
daughters, 2 sisters, 14 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.  The
funeral was held in Christ church Aug. 19.  Text, Gen. 25:8.

Howard Fox
HENNE, son of Jared HENNE and his wife Sarah, nee FOX, was born Nov. 9, 1855,
in Tulpehocken township, and was baptized by Rev. Schmidt Dec. 15, 1855.  He
was confirmed April 29, 1871, in Zion church by Rev. Finfrock.  He was married
to Emma HENNE Nov. 27, 1880, by Rev. Finfrock.  He died Sept. 26, 1922, aged 67
years, 10 months, 17 days.  The funeral was held Sept. 30 in Zion Church. 
Text, Jn. 14:4.  There are surviving his widow, a son, his mother, a brother,
and 2 sisters.

John Ernst
Frederick WEST, a son of John WEST and his wife Catharine [no maiden name
given], was born Feb. 25, 1867, in Stuttgart, Germany, and was baptized in
infancy, and confirmed in his youth.  He was married three times.  His first
wife was Ida CONRAD, with whom he had 8 children, 4 of whom are still living. 
The second was Louise FREDERICK, whom he married Nov. 22, 1906.  The last time
he was married to Nellie EISENLOHR, June 26, 1907.  He died Sept. 29, 1922,
aged 55 years, 7 months, 4 days.  There survive his widow, 1 son, 3 daughters,
and 10 grandchildren.  The funeral was held in Zion church Oct. 3.  Text, I

George
Daniel GRETH, a son of Emanuel GRETH and his wife, Susanna, nee REIFSNYDER, was
born Dec. 20, 1857, in Heidelberg township, and was baptized March 28, 1858, by
Rev. Zehring.  He was confirmed Mar. 26, 1875, in Christ Church by Rev.
Trexler.  He was married to Aquilla SCHAEFFER Jan. 5, 1884, by Rev. A.J. Long. 
He died Oct. 22, 1922, aged 64 years, 10 months, 2 days.  He is survived by his
widow, 5 daughters, a son, a brother, 2 sisters and 16 grandchildren.  The
funeral was held in Christ church Oct. 26. Text, Rev. 2:10.

Mrs. Emma
Rebecca BATTEIGER, nee LUCKENBILL, daughter of Abraham LUCKENBILL and his wife
Elenor, nee MAIDENFORD, was born July 12, 1850, near Auburn, and was baptized
in infancy.  She was confirmed in Zion church by Rev. Leinbach.  On Aug. 28,
1878, she was married to Wm. A. BATTEIGER by Rev. Finfrock.  She died Nov. 11,
1922, aged 63 years, 4 months.  The survivors are 2 daughters, 2 sons, 7
grandchildren, and 2 brothers.  The funeral was held Nov. 16, in Zion Church.

Mrs. Ellen
MILLER, nee ZIEGENTHALER, daughter of Wiliam  ZIEGENTHALER and his wife Matilda
[no maiden name given], was born Aug. 8, 1851, in Upper Bern township, and was
baptized May 24, 1852, by Rev. Mayer.  She was confirmed in St. Michael’s
church by Rev. Leinbach.  On Sept. 9, 1871, she was married to Elijah B. MILLER
by Rev. T.C. Leinbach.  She died Dec. 4, 1922, aged 71 years, 3 months, 26
days.  She is survived by a daughter and a sister.  The funeral was held Dec.
9, 1922, in Friedens Church.  Text, Is. 43: 1.

Henry M.
MILLER, a son of Andrew MILLER and his wife Redosa, nee METZ, was born Sept. 2,
1850, in Upper Bern township and was baptized Jan. 1, 1853, by Rev. Dietzler. 
He was confirmed in St. Michael’s Church by Rev. Zweizig.  He was married to
susanna NAFTZINGER April 18, 1871.  She [typo] died Dec. 10, 1922, aged 72
years, 3 months, 8 days.  He is survived by his widow, 2 daughters.  The
funeral was held Dec. 14, in Friedens Church.  Text, Heb. 13:14.

Mrs. Anna
DERR, nee SCHADE, daughter of Michael SCHADE and his wife Elizabeth, nee HENNE,
was born Dec. 16, 1873, in Upper Tulpehocken township, and was baptized April
18, 1874, by Rev. Trexler.  She was confirmed April 13, 1889, in Friedens
Church, Bernville, by Rev. Cressman.  On July 13, 1898, she was married to H.K.
DERR by Rev. G.W. Gerhard.  She died Dec. 20, 1922, aged 49 years and 4 days. 
She is survived by her husband, 4 daughters, 2 sons, 1 brother, 1 sister and 3
grandchildren.  the funeral was held Dec. 25, in St. Paul’s Church.  Text, Jn.

Helen Sarah
WENRICH, a daughter of Lloyd A.D. WENRICH and his wife Sallie A., nee UNGER,
was born April 20, 1921, in Robesonia, and was baptized Oct. 9, 1921, by Rev.
Klick.  She died Oct. 23, 1922, aged 1 year, 6 months, 2 days.  She is survived
by her parents, a brother and a sister.  The funeral wa held Oct. 25, in Christ
Church.  Text, Job 1:21.

Mrs. Alice
K. MOYER, nee STRAUSS, daughter of Wilson W. STRAUSS and his wife Clara F., nee
HENNE, was born Nov. 4, 1877, in Upper Tulpehocken township, and was baptized
Dec. 30, 1877, by Rev. Finfrock.  She was confirmed in Zion church by [no
title] Kramlich.  She was married to Charles FEICK, with whom she has 3
daughters and 1 son.  With her second husband, Oscar P. MOYER, she has 4
daughters and 3 sons.  She died in an accident with her husband, Dec. 25, 1922,
aged 45 years, 1 month, 21 days.  She is survived by her parents, 7 daughters
and 4 sons.  The funeral was held Dec. 28, in Zion Church.  Text, Is. 45:15.

Oscar P.
MOYER, son of Henry MOYER and husband of Alice K. MOYER, was born Nov. 28,
1880, and died Dec. 25, with his wife in a railroad accident.  Age 42 years and
27 days.  the funeral was held Dec. 28, in North Heidelberg Church.  Text, 1
Sam. 3:18.

Mrs. Cassia
M. EMERICH, nee WAGNER, daughter of Ephraim WAGNER, and his wife Louisa, nee
MILLER, was born June 16, 1856, in Upper Tulpehocken township, and was baptized
Aug. 3, 1856, by Rev. Zehring.  She was confirmed in St. Michael’s church Mar.
23, 1872, by Rev. Zweizig.  She was married June 27, 1874, to Henry EMERICH by
Rev. Zweizig.  She died Dec. 30, 1922, aged 66 years, 6 months, and 14 days. 
She is survived by her husband, 3 sons, 3 daughters, 15 grandchildren, 5
sisters, and by her father.  The funeral was held Jan. 4, 1923, in Friedens
Church.  Text, Heb. 4:19.

John L.
SNYDER, son of Adam SNYDER and his wife Christiana, nee SEILER, was born April
13, 1835, in Tulpehocken township, and was baptized May 13, 1835, by Rev.
Hendel.  He was confirmed May 14, 1853, by Rev. Eggers, at Rehrersburg.  He was
married to Melinda SMITH March 13, 1858, by Rev. Eggers.  He died Jan. 27,
1923, aged 87 years, 9 months, 15 days.  He is survived by 3 sons, 2 daughters,
14 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 brother.  The funeral was held
Feb. 1, in Christ Church.  Text, Ps. 91:16.

Mrs. Kate
Rebecca BATTEIGER, nee HAAG, daughter of Percival HAAG and his wife Emma, nee
LEITNER, wa born Jan. 15, 1873, and was baptized in infancy.  She was confirmed
in Zion Church, April 9, 1887, by Rev. Finfrock.  She was married Nov. 2, 1889,
to Adam T. BATTEIGER by Rev. Finfrock.  She died Feb. 3, 1923, aged 50 years
and 19 days.  There survive 2 daughters, 5 grandchildren, her father, 1 sister
and 3 brothers.  The funeral was held Feb. 8 in Zion church.  Text, Nahum. 1:7.[typo?]

Elizabeth NOECKER, nee OXENREIDER, daughter of Moses OXENREIDER and his wife
Catharine, nee DUNKELBERGER, was born Nov. 1, 1853, in Marion township, and was
baptized March 6, 1854, by Rev. Thos. Jaeger.  She was confirmed in Trinity
church by Rev. Trexler.  She was married to Wilson NOECKER by Rev. Trexler [no
date]. She died Feb. 5, 1923, aged 69 years, 3 months, and 4 days.  She is
survived by 2 daughters, 1 son, 6 grandchildren, 4 sisters.  The funeral was

Mrs. Kate
TOBIAS, nee LIGHT, daughter of Samuel LIGHT and his wife Caroline, nee DECK,
was born May 11, 1872, and was baptized April 9, 1898 as a member of Salem
Church by Rev. Trexler.  She was married Dec. 26, 1891, to Frank H. TOBIAS by
Rev. Trexler.  She died Feb. 6, 1923, aged 50 years, 8 months, 23 days.  There
survive 3 sons, 5 daughters, 2 brothers and 1 sister.  The funeral was held
Feb. 10 in Salem Church.  Nahum. 1:7[typo?]

Mrs.
Elizabeth REBER ,nee MILLER, daughter of Michael MILLER and his wife Elizabeth,
nee WAGNER, was born June 1, 1845, and was baptized Aug. 31, 1845, by Rev.
Minng.  She was confirmed in her youth.  On Dec. 23, 1882, she was married to
Elias REBER by Rev. R.S. Appel.  She died Feb. 14, 1923, at Reading, aged 77
years, 6 months, 13 days.  She was the last of her family.  The funeral was
held Feb. 17, in Freidens Church.  Text, Jn. 14:1-6.

Mrs.
Melinda Clara GOODMAN, nee BAUSHER, daughter of Peter BAUSHER and his wife
Catharine, nee KLINE, was born April 6, 1862, and was baptized in infancy.  She
was confirmed at Strausstown by Rev. Finfrock.  She was married to John GOODMAN
[no date].  She died Feb. 23, 1923, at Reading, aged 60 years, 9 months, 17
days.  There survives 1 son, 3 sisters, 1 brother and 5 grandchildren. The
funeral was held Feb. 27, in Zion Church.  Text, Heb. 4:9.

Mrs. Sarah
Elizabeth WEIANT, nee SCHIMMEL, daughter of Charles S. SCHIMMEL and Mary E.
MILLER, was born April 27, 1889, in Bethel township, and was baptized May 30,
1889, by Rev. A.J. Long.  She was confirmed in 1905 by Rev. Long, in the

by [no title] L.D. Stambaugh. She died March 7, 1923, aged 33 years, 10 months,
10 days.  There survive her husband, 2 sons, her mother, 5 sisters and 1
brother.  The funeral was held March 11, in Salem Church.  Text, Jn. 14:1-6.

John B.
DEGLER a son of John DEGLER and his wife Elizabeth, nee BASHORE, was born July
21, 1846.  He was married to Sarah Ann PAFFENBERGER, Jan. 2, 1869, by Rev.
Finfrock.  He died March 11, 1923, aged 76 years, 7 months, 20 days.  He is
survived by 3 sons, 2 daughters, 2 brothers, 1 sister, 9 grandchildren and 7
great-grandchildren.  The funeral was held on March 15 in Zion Church.  Text,
Ps. 90:12.

Mrs.
Catharine Annie LONG, nee WEIDMAN, daughter of Jonathan WEIDMAN and his wife
Maria, nee GOODMAN, was born Aug. 12, 1849, in Tulpehocken township, and was
baptized in infancy.  She was confirmed Oct. 7, 1817 [date], in Trinity church
by Rev. Klick.  She was married to Adam LONG March 7, 1872, by Rev. Finfrock. 
She died March 12, 1923, aged 73 years, 7 months.  There survive her husband, 5
daughters, 2 sons, 32 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers and 1
sister.  The funeral was held March 17, in Trinity Church.  Text, Is. 38:1.

Katie Hanna
SCHEIDY, a daughter of Charles W. SCHEIDY and his wife Katie, nee SEYFERT, was
born Jan. 27, 1913, in Upper Bern township, and was baptized Feb. 16, 1913, by
Rev. Trexler.  She died March 14, 1923, aged 10 years, 1 month, 17 days.  Her
parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters survive.  The funeral was held March 19, in
Friedens Church.  Text, Mt. 18:14.
