FUNERALS

 

Mrs. Minnie
Minerva KANTNER, nee LIVERS, daughter of William LIVERS AND HIS WIFE, hANNAH
nee WAGNER, was born Oct. 1, 1890, and was baptized infancy.  She was confirmed
in the Lutheran Church, Rehrersburg, by Rev. A.J. Long.  She was married to
John KANTNER Jan. 31, 1907.  She died April 3, 1924, aged 33 years, 6 months, 2
days.  Her husband, 3 daughters, 2 sons and her father and mother survive.  The
funeral took place April 7.  Interment at Trinity Church. [no text given.]

Mrs. Emma
Rebecca HIESTER, nee SCHAUM, daughter of Elias SCHAUM and his wife, Susanna,
nee FENSTERMACHER, was born Oct. 20, 1853, in Bethel Township and was baptized
Mar. 19, 1854, by Pastor Zehring.  She was confirmed april 3, 1869, by Pastor
Finfromk, in Zion Church.  She was married to Wm. D. HIESTER by Rev. Leinbach,
March 18, 1876.  She died April 29, 1924, aged 70 years, 6 months, 9 days.  She
is survived by 2 sons, 9 grandchildren and 1 sister.  The funeral took place
May 3, in Zion Church.  Ps. 84:11.

Josiah
STRAUSS, son of Daniel STRAUSS and his wife, Elizabeth, nee KLAHR, was born
Nov. 25, 1854, in Bethel township.  He died May 2, 1924, in the Reading
Hospital, aged 72 years, 5 months, 7 days.  Funeral in Zion Church, May 7. [no
text given.]

Edward
BICKEL, son of Jonathan BICKEL AND HIS WIFE, Annie, nee WERNER, was born Sept.
4, 1851, in Heidelberg township, and was baptized Nov. 16, [1851] by Pastor
Thomas Jaeger.  He was confirmed at Host by Rev. T.C. Leinbach.  He married
Sarah E. STOUDT Mar. 4, 1871, and died May 22, 1924, aged 72 years, 8 months,
18 days.  He is surved by his widow, 6 sons, 7 daughters, 1 sister, 31
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The funeral took place at Trinity
Church, May 27.  Ps. 84:11.

Mrs. Anelia
Elizabeth DEGLER, nee OCHSENREITER, daughter of John OCHSENREITER and whis
wife, Catharine, nee WEISS, was born May 26, 1858, in Jefferson township, and
was baptized Aug. 8, 1858, by Rev. Grahn.  She was confirmed at Belleman’s
Church April 18, 1874, by Rev. Zweizig.  She was married to Franklin DEGLER
April 12, 1879, by Rev. Finfrock.  She died May 31, 1924, aged 66 years, 5
days.  She is survived by her husband, 5 sons, 4 daughters, 29 grandchildren, 8
sisters and 1 brother.  The funeral took place June 5, at Christ Church.  Jn.
17:11.

Murs
Elizabeth Martha BERGER, nee ULRICH, daughter of John ULRICH and his wife,
Matilda, nee BARNET, was born Feb. 16, 1857, at Adamstown, and was baptized in
infancy.  She was confirmed March 24, 1888, by Rev. Trexler, in Trinity
Church.  She was married Nov. 15, 1873, to Lewis F. BERGER, by Rev. Dr.
Schantz.  She died Aug. 13, 1924, aged 67 yrs., 5 months, 27 days.  The
survivors are her husband, 4 daughters, 3 sons, 3 brothers, 1 sister, 11
grandchildren.  The funeral took place Aug. 18, in Trinity Church.  Rev. 2:10.

Mrs. Sallie
HENNE, nee FOX, daughter of Jacob FOX and his wife, Catherine, nee BATTEIGER,
was born July 24, 1830, in Upper Tulpehocken township and was baptized by Rev.
Bayer.  She was confirmed in Zion Church, by Rev. Hassinger.  She married Jared
HENNE [no date given]. She died Aug. 18, 1924, aged 94 years, and 25 days.  She
is survived by one son, 2 daughters, 7 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren
and 10 great-great-grandchildren.  The funeral was held on Aug. 23, in Zion
Church.  Job 5:26.

Jacob J.
BERTRAM was born Jan. 5, 1869 and was baptized in infancy.  He was confirmed in
Zion church by Rev. Finfrock.  He died Sept. 7, 1924, at Reading, aged 55
years, 9 months, 2 days.  The funeral was held Sept. 11, at Zion Church.  The
sermon was preached by Rev. Wm. Fluck. Text: Ps. 107:30.

Mrs. Sarah
Catherine HOWER, nee ZARTMAN, daughter of Levi ZARTMAN and his wife Sarah, nee
MILLER, was born Mar. 19, 1856, in Jackson township, Lebanon County, and was
baptized April 27, 1856, by Rev. L.G. Eggers.  She was confirmed in Frieden’s
Church, Myerstown, April 20, 1872, by Rev. Schantz.  On Aug. 21, 1875, she was
married to John H. HOWER by Rev. Schantz.  She died Sept. 24, 1924, aged 68
years, 6 mos., 5 days.  There survive her husband, 2 daughters, 2 sons, a
brother and 3 sisters.  The funeral was held in Zoar’s Church, Mount Zion,
Sept. 24 [date?]  Ps. 16:6.

Daniel H.
KLINE, son of Samuel S. KLINE and his wife, Lovina [no maiden name given], was
born Aug. 27, 1866, in Upper Bern Township, and was baptized in infancy.  He
was confirmed in Zion Church by Rev. Finfrock and was married to Minnie HENNE
by Rev. B.D. Swezig.  He died Oct 25, 1924, at Reading, aged 58 years, 1 month,
28 days.  He is survived by his widow, 2 sisters and a brother.  The funeral
was held Oct. 30, in Zion Church. Text: Jn. 11:1-6.

Samuel N.
HENNE, son of Samuel HENNE and his wife, Barbara, nee NOLL, was born Nov. 4,
1838, in Upper Tulpehocken township and was baptized in infancy.  He was
confirmed by Rev. Dietzler in Zion Church and was married to Elemina UNGER in
1863, by Rev. Joel Grim.  He died Dec. 17, 1924, aged 86 years, 4 mo., 13
days.  The survivors are 2 sons, 1 daughter and 1 brother.  The funeral was
held in Zion Church Dec. 22. Jas. 5:11.

Isaac MOLL,
a son of George MOLL and his wife, Susanna, nee UNGER, was born May 10, 1851,
in Perry township and was baptized Aug. 2 – [unreadable], 1851, by Rev.
Herman.  He was confirmed March 24, 1869, by Rev. Schwartz.  He died Nov. 29,
1924, aged 73 years, 6 months, 19 days.  He is survived by 2 sons, and 2
daughters.  The funeral was held Dec. 3, in Zion Church.  Phil. 1:21.

Calvin H.
HIMMELBERGER, son of Levi HIMMELBERGER and his wife, Sarah, nee MILLER, was
born May 20, 1869, in Jefferson township and was baptized July 22, 1869, by
Rev. Finfrock.  He was confirmed in Zion Church April 25, 1885, by Rev. Finfrock. 
He was married to Amelia DIETRICH Jan. 23, 1892, by Rev. A.J. Long.  He died
Jan 12, 1925, in Reading aged 55 years, 7 months, 22 days.  He is survived by
his wife, 3 sons, 2 daughters, 1 brother, 3 sisters and 5 grandchildren.  The
funeral was held Jan. 17, in Zion Church.  I Cor. 3:21-23.

Vera
KEENEY, daughter of Morris KEENEY and his wife, Mabel, nee MILLER, was born
Feb. 9, 1920, in Bethel township and was baptized March 21, 1920, by Rev.
Klick.  She died Jan. 19, 1925, aged 4 years, 11 months, 10 days.  She is
survived by her parents, sister and grandparents.  The funeral was held Jan.
23, in Trinity Church.  Ps. 16:6.

John Adam
SCHRACK, son of David SCHRACK and his wife, Sarah, nee SCHAEFFER, was born
March 20, 1847, in Upper Tulpehocken township, and was baptized July 20, 1847,
by Rev. Ulrich.  He was confirmed in Altalaha Lutheran Church, Rehrersburg, by
Rev. Mayer.  He married Susan CHRIST,, Dec. 30, 1872, Rev. Schantz
officiating.  There were two children.  His second wife was Mary KNOLL, with
whom he had two children.  The third wife was Kate FOX.  He died Jan. 20, 1925,
aged 77 years, 9 mos.  The survivors are 3 sons, 1 daughter, 1 sister, 14
grandchildren.  The funeral took place Jan. 26, in St. Paul’s Church.  I Cor.
3:21-23.

Catharine
N. KEENEY, nee BERGER, daughter of John BERGER and his wife Mary, nee WERTZ,
was born Feb. 6, 1848, in Upper Tulpehocken township and was baptized in her
infancy.  She was confirmed in St. Paul’s Lutheran [church].  She was married
to William KEENEY by Rev. Deitzler. They had three children.  She died Jan. 28,
1925, aged 76 years, 11 months, 22 days.  She was interred in Zion Church
Cemetery, Feb. 3. [no text or surviors given.]

Milton M.
STRAUSS , son of Daniel STRAUSS and his wife, Sarah, nee HUMMEL, was born Nov.
2, 1867, in Bethel townhip, and was baptized Feb. 9, 1868, by Rev. Finfrock. 
He was confirmed in Zion Church April 14, 1883, by Rev. Finfrock.  He was
married to Amelia KANTNER, Sept. 25, 1886, by Rev. Finfrock.  He died March 10,
1925, in St. Joseph’s Hospital, aged 57 years, 4 months, and 8 days.  He is
survived by one son, one grandson and one sister.  The funeral was held March
14, in Zion Church.  Heb. 4:9.

Mrs.
Rebecca HENNE, nee RENTSCHLER, daughter of Wm. B. RENTSCHLER and his wife,
Maria Ann, nee NAGEL, was born Dec. 6, 1845, in Upper Bern township, and was
baptized June 18, 1846, by Rev. Schmidt.  She was confirmed in St. Michael’s
Church, Oct. 8, 1863, by Rev. T.T. Jaeger.  She was married the first time to
Dr. Davilla SCHOENER, May 6, 1865.  Her second husband was Joseph HENNE to whom
she was married June 4, 1881, by Rev. Zwezig.  This union was blessed with one
child.  She died March 14, 1925, aged 79 years, 3 months, 8 days.  She is
survived by her daughter, 5 grandchildren and 3 brothers.  The funeral was held
from her home, at Shartlesville, service and interment at St. MichaelÂ’s Church
March 19.  Ps. 4:3.

NEWS AND
NOTES

“This
is the tenth year that the Parish Record has been sent out to greet you.  The
first four years of its existence it was issued twice a year and the last six
years it has been issued annually.  I suppose some members have kept these
Records from the beginning, and many others wish they had done so.  If bound
they would forma small volume of 120 pages, a record of some of the happiest
occurrences of life, as well as of the saddest….”
