Thomas C Wolfe
THOMPSON C. WOLFE, of Bethel township, Armstrong county, is a thrifty
farmer and respected citizen of that section. He was born Sept. 24, 1860, in
what is now Bethel township, son of Samuel B. and Maria (Wareham) Wolfe. His
paternal grandfather, Jacob Wolfe, was of German extraction; his maternal
grandparents, Peter and Susanna Wareham, were of Scotch and German origin.Samuel Wolfe was born in Armstrong county, July 26, 1825, and died March 5,
1907; his wife, born Feb. 22, 1830, died in November, 1901. They were the
parents of six sons and two daughters, of which family five sons survive, the
daughters and son Silas being deceased.Thompson C. Wolfe attended common school in his township, and worked on his
father’s farm until of age. For years he has been engaged in threshing,
traveling over the country at first with his father and others, having begun
in the days when horsepower was used and changing to steampower when that
became practicable. He owns the ninety acres in Bethel township where he
resides, all of which is under cultivation, his principal crops being grain;
he also raises some stock.On Jan. 5, 1908, Thompson C. Wolfe married Elizabeth Magdalene Darbaker,
who was born on the farm where she now resides. Mrs. Wolfe is a daughter of
Jacob and Harriet (Kinnard) Darbaker, and granddaughter of Isaac and Mary Ann
(Helfrich) Kinnard, of Armstrong county, who were pioneers of Burrell township
and members of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church. Jacob Wolfe enlisted in
Armstrong county for service in the civil war, was a private in an infantry
regiment, and died in Virginia while in the army.Mr. and Mrs. Wolfe are members of Bethel Lutheran Church. Some twelve years
ago he was made a member of the Knights of the Maccabees at Natrona, Pa. In
