George Stettler v. John Adams, Albright Strouse, John Strouse, David Strouse, Philip Strouse, Jacob Strouse, Frederick Stump and Henry Shoemaker
12 April 1794
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, to the Sheriff of Berks County,
Greeting: We command you, that you summon John Adams, Albright Strouse,
John Strouse, David Strouse, Philip Strouse, Jacob Strouse, Frederick
Stump and Henry Shoemaker so that they be and appear before our Justices
at Reading, at our County Court of Common Pleas, there to be held for
the County of Berks, the 4th Day of August next; to answer George
Stettler of a Plea wherefore with Force and arms they on the 8th day of
May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety-three
they did break and enter the Close of the said George Stettler situate
in Bethel Township in the County aforesaid and the outer door of the
Dwelling House of the said George Stettler in and upon the Close
aforesaid they did violently break and force open and then and there did
make an assault upon him the said George Stettler and him then and there
did beat, wound and imprison him then and there in Bethel Township
aforesaid, in Tulpehocken Township, in Bern Township, in Alsace Township
and in the Borough of Reading all in the County aforesaid and imprisoned
did keep and detain him for a long time to wit the span of two days from
the day aforesaid and ordering(?) without and reasonable and careful
cause, and other outrages to him then and there did to the great damage
of the said George Stettler and against the Peace and dignity of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. And have you then this Writ – Witness the

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, to the Sheriff of Berks County,
Greeting: We command you, that you summon Philip Strouse late of your
County yeoman so that he be and appear before our Justices at Reading,
at our County Court of Common Pleas, there to be held for the County of
Berks, the 7th Day of April next; to answer the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania of a plea that he render unto her one hundred pounds which
taken he owes and unjustly detains. And have you then this Writ –

Berks, on the 1st Monday in April next, to answer Ludwig Wert of a plea
of Trespass upon the Case. And have you then there this Writ….Witness
