DAVIS, MCCRELLIAS posted by Carol McCrellias on Wednesday, March 1, 2000

Looking for parentage of Anna Davis/Sarah Davies, spouse of John McCrellias. The couple lived in Mt. Pleasant, Westmoreland Co., PA, from at least about 1840 to the 1850s when they left for Illinois and on to Iowa. Some of their children were supposedly born in Westmoreland county: Righter/Riter McCrellias, b. 15 or 16 Mar 1854; Foster Ephraim McCrellias, b. Aug 1849; William R. McCrellias b. 16 Jul 1839; and possibly seven or eight others from about 1838 forward. My gr-grandfather, Peter McCrellias (b.14 Dec 1859, location unknown, poss. PA), is also their son. Do not know marriage date of John and Anna/Sarah or Anna's birth date; this lack of info, plus distance (I live in China) have made it difficult to track her parentage..

My ancestor was Robert Irwin born June 22, 1804 in Westmoreland County, Pa. He came to Scioto County, Ohio between 1815 and 1820 with two brothers. I am not sure of his Parent's names. In researching 1810 Westmoreland County Census records, an Edward Irwin of Fairfield township and a Major James Irwin of Salem township seem the most likely prospects.
Edward Irwin of Fairfield twnshp have 5 male children under age 10, 1 male 10 to 15, 3 males 16 to 25, and one male 45 or over which I assume was him in his household. He also had a female under age 10, a female 16-25, and a female 26-44.
Major James Irwin of Salem township had 3 males under age 10, 1 male 26 to 44 which I assume was him. 3 females under age 10 and 1 female 26 to 44.
Does anyone know additional info about these familes? The names of the children in each household? Any infor will be appreciated.

I have sketchy info about marriage of a Joseph Norris (the younger) to Margaret Kerns 4 Sep 1804, performed by by James Power, DD of Mt. Pleasant, Westmoreland. I know nothing of location of this church. I've confirmed that this Joseph/Margaret are my ancestors according to wills in Wayne Co, OH.
Later Norris line runs from Crawford Co to Wayne Co, OH, then Hancock Co, OH and on to Fulton Co, IN where I was born in 1947. My puzzle remains linkage to PA and back thru New England to Scotland/Ireland.

STREENAN, STREENEN, STRENNEN posted by Eric Strennen on Tuesday, March 28, 2000

I am researching Stephen and Elizabeth Streenan, also spelled Streenen and Strennen, who immigrated to Westmoreland Co. in 1893. They came from Bedlington, County Northumberland, England, with their 3 daughters Elizabeth Ann, Esther Jane, and Sara E. They had two more sons Stephen and Hugh. I have found most of the descendants of the two sons, but would like to find more about the daughters and their descendants. Stephen was a coal miner as were his two sons. Elizabeth Ann married Martin O'Neil, a coal miner, in 1903. Esther Jane married Hugh Doyle, also a coal miner, in 1904. I haven't found what became of Sara. If anyone is interested in this family line, please contact me. I have numerous records that someone might find of interest.

FRANCE, HINE, LAUFFER, MILLER, REASER, RICE, YAGER posted by Gary Rice on Wednesday, March 29, 2000

The Frederick Rice Family reunion will be held July 1, 2000, on the old RICE homestead on the grounds of the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC).
Frederick RICE was the only son of Barnhart RICE, who immigrated from Germany between 1728 and 1746. He was born near Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in Northampton County. After serving in the Revolutionary War, Frederick married Anna Catherine LAUFFER in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. They later moved to Wayne County, Ohio, near Wooster.
A number of Frederick and Catherine RICE's descendants lived in Butler and Westmoreland Counties in Pennsylvania, and several also migrated to Indiana from Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania in the mid-1800s and settled in northeastern Indiana, particularly in the counties of Huntington, Allen, Whitley, Wabash, Wells, Adams, and Jay.
The Frederick Rice Family reunion committee is preparing an update of the Genealogy of the Frederick Rice Family. If you are descended from Frederick and Catherine Rice, please contact the reunion committee and update your family information. You will find more about Frederick RICE and his family and more information about the upcoming reunion at the OARDC, accommodations and local attractions at these links:

Looking for information on my greatgrandfather. His name was John Markley. His son, my grandfather was named Jonathan Wesley Markley d:1948 abt. 78 yrs. of age. His wife was Emma (White). Their children: Helen, John, Jane, Robert. All deceased now. I was able to find the family of John W Markley 36 w/wife Jane 37 children: Elizabeth & Elias J. this family is located in W. Bethlehem Twp. in the 1850 Census for West Moreland Co. This is the closest I have been able to come to finding a John W. DEVINNEY posted by Gwen Sutton on Friday, March 31, 2000

I am looking for information on my mother. My mother was born on or about April 9, 1923 in Vandergrift, PA. She was the youngest of several siblings. I was told Her mother (my grandmother) passed away at the time my mother born and her father (My grandfather) was a shoemaker. My granfather could not raise my mother so he gave her to Harry and Viola DeVinney to raise as thier own child. There was no legal adpotion papers, just a handhsake. The DeVinney's moved to Washington DC between 1923-1925. My mother did not know until 1977 that Harry and Viola were not her birth parents. My mother passsed away on October 31, 1996 and was 73 years old at the time of her death so she should have brothers and sisters older than that. If anyone knows anything about such a story please contact me. I am trying to find my roots and where I truly come from. My mothers birth parents are said to be Italian.

LONGANECKER posted by Patricia Homlis on Friday, March 31, 2000

Information on LONGANECKER family: My maiden surname is Longanecker and all the Longanecker's that I personally knew were from Bullskin Twp, Fayette Co., PA. I will see if I can give you more info on this family to see if there is a possibility that we connect.
JOHN S. LONGANECKER was born in 1830, I do not know where. He was married 18 Jan 1853 in Christ Brethern Church, West Newton, PA. which was at that time Rostraven Twp, I believe, Westmoreland Co. He married JANE MULLIGAN/MILLIGAN who was born 8 Feb 1824 and died 7 Dec 1896.
JOHN S. LONGANECKER died 27 Apr 1888. I do not know where he is buried. Children are:
Caroline (Carrie) born 20Dec 1853 married Joseph Webb
Alexander Mulligan born 2 Sep 1855 married Lillian Smouse
John Braden born 13 Jul 1857 married Maggie Seese
William (Henry) Harrison born 1 Apr 1859 married Elizabeth Mariah Hatfield
Samuel D. born 8 Nov 1861 married Mollie Etling
Jame Ellsworth born 29 Jun 1863 married Maggie Warner
Frank B. born 26 May 1869, died as infant

The next generation William Henrywho married Elizabeth Mariah Hatfield I also have.
Where I get lost is before John S. Longanecker. He could of been Jacob, but this I don't know. I feel since John S. Longanecker was married in West Newton, the family must of been in that area, but have no proof other than the marriage. I don't even have the place of birthof the children of John S. Longanecker.
Hope this will help to establish a connection between our family. Please keep in touch and let me know if any of this rings a bell or point me in the right direction. Any help you can give me would be appreciated. Patricia
