Wismer

Kindly submitted by: Charlie Walton

Jacob Wismer,b 1684, migrated to America with his parents, Jacob and Maria Freit (I have to
look up the correct spelling) entering at New Bern, NC.  According to the Rev. A.J. Fretz book on Jacob
Wismer, the settlers were attacked by indians with about 100 being killed.  Jacob escaped by giving
the indians some tobacco and running/walking 90 miles the first day.  He ended up in the Byberry
settlement (Quaker settlement including William Walton in NE Phila.)  Jacob later was taken into
the country (present Bedminster Twp.). Jacob lived to be 103 years old, 1787.  He is buried in
the Deep Run Mennonite Cemetery. Jacob was married to Nanny Souder for 67 years, had 11
children and between children & grandchildren there were 170 offspring.   My grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Wismer, daughter of Zenus.

My wife's mother's parents settled in Northampton County in the 1600's.  Name of Kosterborder with
several different spellings.
