CHRIST, BORTZFIELD, JACKSON I am interested in finding out the parents of Hannah G. Jackson, second wife of Amos B. Christ. According to her gravestone she was born Dec. 11, 1845. I was unable to find her on the 1850 census and in 1860 she was living with a minister, John Stamon, with several other unrelated children (orphans? servants?). I'm also interested in sharing info on the CHRIST family of the Manor Township, Millersville area, as well as the BORTZFIELD family.

GORBY - I am attempting to verify whether a Gorby was a member of the infamous "Paxton Boys" who massacred the last of the Susquehannock Indians in December 1763. According to a handwritten manuscript found in a shoebox kept by a now deceased great aunt: "A group of trappers killed some indians and Gov. John Penn tried to punish them by taking away the family lands. These were known as the Paxton boys and names found were Gorby, Green, Crawford as well as several others. This caused a revolt and many people left the settlement." I have been told that there are a number of lists around (old histories of Dauphin and Lancaster County) of people who were members of this group but have been unable to locate any to date.

HAYS/HAYES In the book "History of that part of the Susquehanna and Juniata Valleys embraced in the counties of Mifflin, Juniata, Perry, Union and Snyder in PA" on page 632, I find a biographical entry for a John Hayes, Sr. It states in part " John Hayes is of Irish decent, Andrew, his father, having married in his native land, Jane Alcorn, and with his wife emigrated before the war of the American Revolution and settled in Lancaster, PA. Their children were Robert, Thomas, Edward, Andrew, John, Frank, William, Henry, Sally and a child that died in infancy." It goes on to state that John Hayes married Jane Alexander and moved to Mifflin co., PA where he became a plasterer. Does anyone know anything about this family? I am a descendent of an Edward Hayes and am not sure if this is the right family. HELP!
