HIRSCHI/HERSHEY/HERSCHEY Magdalena Schindler Hirschi (Sometimes spelled Hershey or Herschey) Born 12 Feb 1815, Bern, Oberdiessbach, Switzerland Daughter of Ulrich Schindler (born about 1789). Married David Hirschi, son of Christian Hirschi and Magdalena Still, on 8 June 1839. He was about 63 and she was 24 at the time of their marriage. Children: Magdalena (Maud Lena) and David. Sailed for America on the "Underwriter" , March 30, 1860. Arrived in New York, May 1, 1860. David--the husband--died and was buried at sea on April 19, 1860. The passenger list for the "Underwriter" shows David, Magdalena, daughter Magdalena and someone named Daniel, but no son named David. Daniel, age wise, would have been between the children Magdalena and David. I have no proof that Daniel was their son. And I don't know what happened to David. We thought he had died in Utah. I lose Magdalena and her children in New York. Most of the people on the ship went on to Florence, Nebraska three days after arriving in New York. But I don't find Magdalena with them. I did research in the census records of the surrounding states. In Pennsylvania, Manor Township, Lancaster County, the July 1860 census shows a Magdalena Hershey age 45 living there with a Mary and a Jacob, both listed as Hershey's. Mary was a domestic and Jacob was a laborer. This Magdalena's age matches very closely with my Magdalena. She is listed as having been born in Pennsylvania. This may have been a language barrier mistake. She is still in this location in 1870.

Brush- My GG grandfathers sister, Elizabeth Shartzer(Sher tzer) md John A. Brush. Date is unknown.John was the son of George Brush. They lived in the Central Manor/Washington Boro area of Manor Twp.,Lancaster County,PA .The Brush family held the position of Justice of the Peace for @ 140 years. The last J.P. Brush of Manor Twp, dying @ 1947. Has anyone ever stumbled on or have posession of any of the J.P. Dockets kept by the Brush family? It seems that no one got married in a church in Washington Boro,PA.There aren't alot of marriage records found in the churches there. This leads me to believe that most were probably married in Civil Ceremonies rather then religious ones. Also is anyone out familiar with the Brush family of Lancaster County,PA?Thanks again in advance! Sincerely Barry L. Dusel

I am trying to plug into the HERSHEY family. My grandmother was Genevieve Louise HERSHEY, born in Lancaster County, PA on 8 Nov 1882. Her father was S. HERSHEY (We think the S. stood for Sol or Saul). In the 1860 census of Lancaster County I found a Solomon HERSHEY, aged 3, living with the George R. MILLER (age 43) family. Other members of the MILLER family were the wife, Catherine (age 43), and children, Ann (age 21), Henry (age 20), Mary (age 18), Levi (age17), David (age 15), Nathaniel (age 11), Benjamin (age 8), and Edward (age 3). In the 1870 census I found a Sol HERSHEY, now age 13, living with Henry E. MILLER (age)29) together with Mary (age 28), David (age 23), and Benjamin (age 18). The question: was Solomon HERSHEY orphaned? What was his connection with the MILLER family? Was Catherine MILLER his Aunt, and if so, what was her maiden name? What happened to Solomon's parents? What were their names? My g grandfather S. HERSHEY married Susan WIEDMANN (WIEDMAN? WEIDMAN?). Sometime after my grandmother (Genevieve Louise) was born in 1882, the family moved to Beatrice, Nebraska. Any help would be appreciated.

From: harold jackson
Subject: German Protestant Reform Church
Fri May 23 11:14:43 1997

I am looking for a record of the above church which might include lists or rolls of church members, especially one Jasper BUSH or Jasper BUSCH. He allegedly left PA in time to get to Richland County, South Carolina and enlist in the South Carolina Troops to fight in the Revolutionary War, signing up in 1780. I suspect his father's name may have been Jacob BUSH or BUSCH or perhaps another J. BUSH. The only record I have is that he was a member of the German Protestant Reform Church and came from Germany, location unknown, to Pennsylvania and then to SC in 1780.

If you could furnish any clues here, I'd appreciate it! Thanks,

Harold Jackson
