John Fleck(d.12/8/1831) My brother and I are trying to trace our father's family. We have traced lineage back to Harrisburg but have hit a stone wall. Specifically, we are trying to find information concerning our gggrandfather, John Fleck.

We know he was born between 1780-90. He married Elizabeth Garverick in Harrisburg, PA on 4/19/1811. They were married by the Rev G. Glongingor (sp.?), a German Reform minister. It is possible that he was a wood cutter by profession or something like that.

We know two things for sure. 1. The name has always been spelled, "Fleck" and 2.that they had at least one child, Charles Fleck. Probably there were more children.

The information we have comes from War of 1812 Bounty Land papers and John Fleck's will.

RAU. Lived in Ephrata, PA, c. 1875. Grandchildren were Mary Emma (b 1870), Elva (b 1872), Grace Rosetta (b. 1879), & Elizabeth Hannah (b. 1881, my grandmother). Family myth says that the 2 elder granddaughters, who lived in Phila w/parents John Frederick Rau & Mary (Fackler) Rau, were sent to Ephrata to stay w/grandparents during an "epidemic" in phila. Younger 2 grandaughters not yet born. Grandfather Rau was "such a holy man" than when he died, "the whole town heard the sound of angels singing." My great-aunt Mary remembered the household as being so pious that, on the Sabbath, all mirrors were covered with black cloth to prevent anyone from inadvertently falling into the sin of vanity. I'd like any available info about the Ephrata family.

WHITE I am looking for information concerning the brothers Hugh and Moses White of Scotch-Irish stock that lived for a time in Neshaminy, PA in the area that later became Lancaster Co. On 4 Nov 1722 they are found on the roll of the Dutch Reformed Church in Neshaminy. It is said that the children of Hugh were Hugh, John, Henry and Moses, Sr and those of Moses were David, Jane, Joseph, James, Mary and John. I am trying to see if there is a connection between this family and the John White that migrated to Washington Co, TN in the late 1700s. This John was also Scotch-Irish and was born 1754 and probably did come to TN from PA. Any information on these Whites will be appreciated.

RANKIN, SANS, COPENHAFER, GALLOWAY My gg grandfather was named DAVID RANKIN SANS COPENHAFER GALLOWAY. He was born in Pa. I do not know where. In my research I find all of his names are surnames. He was born 1818 in Pa. The first info I have on him is when he comes to Texas to fight in the Mexican American War. He does fight and he gets a land grand in Dallas, Texas. My research tells me that all of his surnames were very much involved prior to and during the Revolutionary War there in Pennsylvania. Apparently liking to fight ran in the family. If any one can help me with finding the names of his parents, it would be very much appreciated.

In researching my ancestor, Michael Knoop, I find his name listed in a reference ("A New Index Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Before the Federal Census, Volume 5 by Gary T. Hawbaker and Clyde L. Groff) on a 1777 list for a "Non-Assocators Tax" for Paxton. Can anyone tell me the background of this particular list--i.e. why and how the non-assocators were singled out? Is there any other information listed on this tax list? Would any land records be of use in research? Michael Knoop went to Saint John, NB somewhere between this time and 1790 so I highly suspect he was a Loyalist. There is a Michael Knapp listed among Loyalists who fought with the Prince of Wales American Regiment. Any information on this group?

You have probably seen the query I sent to the USGENWEB page for Lancaster County on the MAYER-FREY-KAUFFMAN-MC CUNE line. Since my trip to the National Archives last week to view the 1920, 1910, and 1900 census, I have learned these families were living in Millersville in 1910 and 1900 and in Lancaster City in 1920 on Ann St. I am especially interested in finding more information on the family of David E. Mayer b 30 Jun 1839 and his wife Elizabeth FREY b 22 Sep 1841, both of Millersville. They married in 1862. Of their 12 children living in 1900, I know of Leroy (b Mar 1868), Irvin (b Feb 1883), Willis Saylor (b 13 Mar 1886) m Lillian KAUFFMAN in 1909, and Fannie (b Dec 1877).

My question is, do you know of a cemetery book or church records book for the Millersville area, which I might find in a library, or from a book salescatalog which may have some vital records? I do not know the denomination of the families for certain. I have seen some family histories for the surnames mentioned which say they are Mennonite. I believe the MAYER-FREY-KAUFFMAN families to be German or Swiss descent and the MC CUNE/MC CUEN/MC QUOWN family to be Irish or Scot descent. Since I live in Decatur, AL, I would appreciate any suggestions for online sources or for a list of genealogists who research the Manor Twp part of the county.

In the mid and late 1700's there were several listings for OGAN in Pennsylvania, including Lancaster County. Perhaps about 1780 an Alexander W. DOUGLASS married in Lancaster Co.Jane MOORE and subsequently moved to Madison Co., KY. I would like more about DOUGLASS families of this area in the 1700's. SIMERAL is known from a middle name (James Simeral OGAN). Does any one know of a woman Ann born about 1738 whose last name may have been SIMERAL?
