MARTIN/URY/OURIE; PA,USA>OH,USA; 1775-1848 Please help me determine if the following John and Arthur MARTIN are related. And, can you help me determine if Susanna OURIE and Susanna URY are the same person? Any ideas you have for how I might determine these answers will be greatly appreciated. Details for identifying these folks follow. Facts and coincidences: -siblings of one family sometimes married siblings in another family...such as John & Arthur MARTIN and Eva Margaret & Susanna URY -the birth dates of all four are about right for my MARTIN/OURIE[URY] folks, so they could have come from the same MARTIN and URY siblings. -Lancaster and York are next to each other so travel was feasible -Eva Margaret URY had a known sister Susanna URY [could have become the wife of John MARTIN] -the mother of Susanna and Eva Margaret URY was also Eva Margaret URY [and if John and Susanna MARTIN followed the conventional pattern of naming their first daughter for the maternal grandmother, Eva MARGARET Ury, that could explain why John and Susanna DID have a first daughter named Margaret.] -Arthur[MARTIN]is a good Scots-Irish name, and John MARTIN's parents were Scots-Irish -Arthur and Eva Margaret [URY] MARTIN moved from Lancaster Co., PA to near Cadiz, Harrison Co., OH in 1817. Cadiz is just 10 miles north of the National Road through Belmont Co. which is where John and Susanna [OURIE] MARTIN had moved in about 1800. -Eva Margaret URY was baptised in a Lutheran Reformed Church, possibly similar to the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church of York, York, PA that John and Susanna MARTIN had their son Samuel baptised in, 30 Aug 1800. So much for the interesting possibilities. More facts: John MARTIN was reportedly born in York, York, PA circa 1775. Susanna OURIE was born circa 1777, possibly in PA or nearby. John MARTIN and Susanna OURIE married about 1797, probably in the York/Lancaster counties region. Their first son, Samuel, was baptised in Christ Evangelical Reformed Lutheran Church, York, York, PA. Arthur MARTIN was born in Lancaster Co., PA. Eva Margaretha URY was born 30 Nov 1771 in Lancaster Co. They were married 21 Aug 1804 in Lancaster Co. Both were Lutherans. Eva Mararetha URY had a sister Susanna URY born 1 Oct 1780, Lancaster Co., PA. Their parents were George and Eva Margaretha [SCHLEBACH] URY. In about 1800, John and Susanna [OURIE] MARTIN moved to Belmont Co., OH. In 1817, Arthur and Eva Margaretha [URY] MARTIN moved to Cadiz, Harrison, OH, roughly 10-15 miles north of John and Susanna MARTIN. Questions: 1. Are Susanna OURIE, born circa 1777, who married John MARTIN, and Susanna URY, born 1780, sister to Eva Margaretha URY, the same person? 2. Are John MARTIN, born circa 1775 in York Co., PA and Arthur MARTIN, born just south of York in Lancaster Co., probably about the same time period, related? I really appeciate your help. -- -Bill Martin Denver, CO, USA mailto:martinbill@earthlink.net

GROFF/GRAFF: According to F.W. Beers "History of Montgomery Co.", Jacob GRAFF b. abt 1767 came from Hanover PA. Had sons Peter and Philip and lived in Fonda, Montgomery Co., NY. Later, a Jacob showed up in Hope, Hamilton Co., NY and moved to Wells. Other Groff's who may be from the same family are: John GROFF b. 1762 who lived in Town of Mohawk, NY 1790 Census moved to Hope, Hamilton Co., NY in 1792, purchased land there and raised a family. Have decendency. He had two sons; John P. abt 1790 and Overocker Groff b. 1798. which because of his first name probably indicates that John's (b.1762) wife's maiden name was OVEROCKER/OBEROCKER/OVERACKER. Another Groff believed to be a relative smae area is a Christian Groff b. 1768. "History of Futlon County" by Frothingham states that his father came from Germany/Switzerland. He had a son Benjamin and a grandson Daniel married to Eve FAILING. Dan went back to Germany to try to reclaim land there and also at one time went to Hope. Also believe to be brothers of the above are a henry b. 1796 and a Jerre b. 1778. An Abraham may also be related but have no decendency for him. Have a lot of information on the decendency of these lines but need help connecting them. Believe they came from Germany/Switzerland and settled in the York County/Lancaster County area and moved to New York in the 1780's. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ORT query. I am reasonably confident that I have traced my ORT roots to Lancaster where my 4th G grandfather John Ort, Jr. was born (as Johannes) to Johannes and Maria Ort, 8-11-1790, baptized 10-4-1790 in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Lancaster. Soon thereafter (in 1794 according to John Sr.'s obituary) the family picked up roots and immigrated to Mifflin County. I would be interested in communicating with any other ORT/ORTH researchers and would like to extend the line back and find out more about Johannes, Sr. and Maria. Help greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

MARTIN, SHOWALTER. I recently downloaded a couple of family genealogies which indicate that my GGGGM Susanna Showalter Foulk (1805-1886) was adopted by her "mother Susanna's brother Christian [1771-1825] and his wife Mary in 1809" after her father "Mr. Martin" was killed in a duel with his business partner that year. Christian did have a sister named Susanna who (later?) married Peter Wolf. Their parents were Jacob ( -1809) and Barbara Oyer Showalter. Does anyone have information on who this Martin is? Thanks.

Bernard was living in Drumore Township in 1860 and 1870 and in Philadelphia in1850 and later in 1880 according to census records. He was born in Ireland and emigrated to the US prior to 1842. I would like to connect with anyone who may be researching this line.

Ricksecker. I am looking for more information on Peter Ricksecker (1709-1778) and his first wife Anna Christianna Jung (1709-1751). Anna and Peter were married in Donegal in 1743, while yet members of the German Reformed Church. Anna died in Donegal in 1751 and is buried in the Old Moravian Burial Ground near Milton Grove in Mount Joy Twp. I would like to find her maiden name and any additional information on the couple prior to 1751. Peter moved to Lititz and remarried Barbara Bort mn. Bechtel (1717-1770) in Aug. 1751. Request info Re one Patrick Ewing of Little Britain, Twp, Lancaster Co. He reportedly accepted indentures of & Offered by William McKay(Mccoy) on 8 Oct 1772 at the Office of the Mayor of The City of Phil.. Indentures were for William, Sandie, Donald , Angus, James & Jean MCKAY who were indentured to EWING and his assigns of above referenced Twp. All were indentured to serve as servants for periods ranging from 3-8 years. William arrived on 7 Oct 1772, probably at Wilmington, MD. He was accompanied by his nephew, Alexander, a juvenile. I am trying to locate the 'so-called' Mccoy progenitor who was an Alexander,. I suspect the progenitor's name is the result of "Tradition". My information about Ewing is from " Record of Indentures of Individuals Bound out as Apprentices, servants, etc. and of other German Rerdemptives in the Office of the Mayor ...., 3 Oct 1771 to 5 Oct 1773". The family ended up in Beaver Co.Tks for any help. Mac.
