1850 PA Census: Westmoreland County, Ligonier Borough and Ligonier Township
National Archives Microfilm Series M432, roll 836

James P. Hurst, enumerator, covered Ligonier Borough and Ligonier Township from 10 Sep through 29 Oct 1850.

(1/1) at the beginning of each family group represents (Dwelling house numbered in the order of visitation/Families numbered in the order of visitation). The two numbers may differ if there was more than one family per dwelling house.

Birth places for both parents will be listed, and the children in any family group should be assumed to be born in the same location as the parents unless otherwise specified. In certain cases, to prevent confusion, all birth places will be noted. If a birth place is not given, assume Pennsylvania.

The notation "school" means "Attended School within the year." The dollar amount, when it appears, refers to the value of real estate owned.

Unclear words or numbers will be followed by an asterisk (*). Editorial comments or question marks will be enclosed in brackets [ ].

In the interest of preserving "vertical space," some children will be listed horizontally across the screen rather than each on their own line, as in the original.

If a person's sex is not perfectly clear by their given name, an [M] or [F] is included immediately after their age, as in the original.
