Biography
Samuel Knox came from Scotland as a young man after the Revolutionary War;
and opened a tavern on the Bedford Road, near Ligonier in Westmoreland Co.,
PA. As an innkeeper on the frontier, he hosted solders, settlers and Indians
still remaining in the area. The age difference between Samuel Knox and his
wife Ann McHarg suggests she was probably his second wife, but no information
about a possible first wife has been found yet. He married quickly after his
wife Ann's death, as he had young children who needed care. His widow Rebecca
lived many years after his death in the tavern.
