Conewango Township

A stream and a township. Conewango is Seneca for "In (or at) the riffles". This came from an indian name originally rendered as Kanonogan. The present spelling dates from about 1795. The township embraced the eastern half of the county, and the first township election was held in the home of Daniel Jackson in the spring of 1808.
