Ralston Rupert, aged 83 years, died at his home in South Bend on Friday evening, following an illness of ten weeks. He was born on November 11, 1842, and was a veteran of the Civil War, having served under the command of Capt. N.I. Horrell, in Co. C, Fourth Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Calvary. He enlisted on August 3, 1864, and was discharged May 15, 1865.

He was a lifelong member of the Reformed church of South Bend, where services were held on Monday morning by Rev. Maxwell of Vandergrift. He was laid to rest in in the South Bend Cemetery.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ruth A. Silvis, with whom he made his home. Two children preceded him in death. Seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren are living.

Mr. Rupert was highly esteemed and was the friend of young and old. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Not withstanding the almost impassable condition of the roads, a large number of persons paid tribute to his memory by attending the funeral services.
