Citation: Distinguished bravery in action; was severely wounded at Petersburg, Va., 18 June 1864.

EDWARD L. GILLIGAN

First Sergeant, Company E, 88th Pennsylvania Infantry. Entered service at: Philadelphia, Pa. Birth: Philadelphia, Pa.

Citation: Assisted in the capture of a Confederate flag by knocking down the color sergeant at Gettysburg, Pa., 1 July 1863.

Date of issue: 30 April 1892.

SYLVESTER H. MARTIN

Lieutenant, Company K, 88th Pennsylvania Infantry. Birth: Chester County, Pa..

Citation: Gallantly made a most dangerous reconnaissance, discovering the position of the enemy and enabling the division to repulse an attack made in strong force at Weldon Railroad, Va., 19 August 1864.

Date of issue: 5 April 1894.

WILLIAM SANDS

First Sergeant, Company G, 88th Pennsylvania Infantry. Entered service at: Reading, Pa. Birth: Reading, Pa.

Citation: Grasped the enemy's colors in the face of a deadly fire and brought them inside the lines at Dabney's Mills, Va., 6-7 February 1865.

Date of issue: 9 November 1893.
