Citation: At Trevilian Station, Va., 12 June 1864. Voluntarily carried a box of ammunition across an open space swept by the enemy's fire to the relief of an outpost whose ammunition had become almost exhausted, but which was thus enabled to hold its important position.

Sergeant, Company B, 6th U.S. Cavalry. Entered service at: ------. Birth: Germany.

Citation: Bravery in an attempt to carry a communication through the enemy's lines; also rescued an officer from the hands of the enemy. At Millerstown, Pa., July 1863.

Date of issue: 23 April 1889.
