- CONRAD posted by Laura
Sadowsky on Sunday, July 2, 2000
- Searching for any information regarding John Joseph CONRAD. He was
born in 1825 in Bavaria and he married Katharina Herschenroder there
before 1852. He immigrated first to the area of Harrisburg in Dauphin
Co., PA about 1852 and then to Lancaster Co. (possibly around Mt. Joy)
sometime before 1864-66. He then took his family westward, following his
parents and other siblings, including his younger brother Laurenz who
was a priest. They settled in the area of Pine Bluff, just west of
Madison, in Dane Co., Wisconsin about 1868. In 1885, Katharina died and,
according to an 1893 Dane county history biography of John and
Katharina's son-in-law, Adolph Birrenkott (married John and Katharina's
daughter, Anna), John went back to Pennsylvania and took up residence
again in/around Mt. Joy in Lancaster Co. The family was Roman Catholic,
so it's quite probable that John attended mass at the Catholic church in
Mt. Joy (Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary).
John and Katharina's children are Margaret (b. abt. 1852, PA), Laurence
(b. abt. 1854, PA), Anthony (b. 1856, in/near Harrisburg, Dauphin Co.,
PA), Mary (b. abt. 1859, PA), Joseph (b. abt. 1862, PA), Anna Josephine
(b. 1866, Lancaster Co., PA), and Theresia (b. abt. 1868 in Dane Co.
Wisconsin).
Any information on the above (especially the death and burial location
of John Joseph CONRAD) would be greatly appreciated. I am willing to
share any info I may have.
