EATON, ELLIOTT, MOWL posted by Carla Eaton on Saturday, March 4, 2000

Taken from a personal letter written by Robert Adams Eaton to his aunt, Sarah Mowl on Aug. 22, 1828
"Oh, you wanted to know something about Mr. Elliot in your last letter. I'll tell you now. I would have told you last time but I hadn't time. He is very unwell. He has the consumption but still as yet he can attend to his business. He does not preach in the same meeting house he formerly did, his friends have built him a new one on the same street you lived in when you lived here. It is a plain weather boarded building. He has at present I believe a very large congregation."
Robert was apprenticed to Lancaster newspaperman, John Reynolds. This letter was written in Lancaster, but Robert's home was probably Rohrerstown.
Does any one recognize what church was being discussed and where it might be located? Thank you.

My ancestor HENRY BOOZER/BUSER was born in 1801 in Switzerland. He came to America 1810-1820 with his mother, stepfather (his father had died abt 1808 in Switzerland) and sister (names unkown to me). Henry was bound out to a man named BECKER in Lancaster Co., PA for 4 yrs (a happy time for him). He became a weaver of silk and other fabrics. By 1825, he was in Columbiana Co., OH and married CATHERINE PAINTER, daughter of JOHN ADAM PAINTER (a Revolutionary soldier) and his wife Catherine. Henry was naturalized in Columbiana Co., OH in 1840 and lived there until 1845, when he sold his land and moved to Wood Co., OH, where he remained until his death in 1880. According to family tradition, Henry's parents may have died enroute to America and Henry and his sister taken in by other passengers. Could the statement 'bound out' refer to Mr. Becker taking in Henry until he was of age? If so, would there be any court records? Would there be court records if it meant he was indentured to pay his passage. Exactly, what does 'bound out' mean? Any help greatly appreciated. I have hit roadblocks, brick walls and dead ends trying to find his parents and place of birth in Switzerland.

CALDWELL, PHILLIPS posted by Jean Adams on Tuesday, March 28, 2000

Searching for anyone who connects to the JOHN & MARGARET PHILLIPS CALDWELL, who came to Lancaster County, about 1727, and left a few years after to form the Cub Creek CALDWELL Settlement in Charlotte County (then Lunenberg Co.), near the present-day Phenix. Also JAMES CALDWELL of York Co. who I believe lst married an ANN (maiden name unknown) in York Co., believe their lst born, WILLIAM, was born to them in 1759. I beleive ANN may have died in childbirth, because this JAMES returns to Princeton College the same year, and got his DD degree from there in 1760. He was murdered by the British in Elizabeth, NJ, buried in Caldwell, NJ, named after him. He 2nd married HANNAH OGDEN of New Jersey in 1763. My WILLIAM lst married REBECKAH in York Co. ?, fights in VA in the Revolutionary War, musters out in Trenton, NJ, but goes to Adair County, Columbia, about 1809, and dies there 7-5-1825. He 2nd married REBECCA EDMONDS in 1816.
