HIBSCHMAN I am looking for the European origins of Gerhardt Huebschmann/Hibschman who arrived in America on 24 Sep 1737, and settled in Cocalico, now Ephrata, Twp, Lancaster Co, PA. Also, who was his wife? The few records I have found list her as Anna Elisabetha. American records on this couple are sparse. They may have been Mennonites, although some of their children appear to have adopted the Reformed faith. There are no records of their births or deaths. It would seem that they are buried on the Hibschman Cemetery in Ephrata, PA, but time has destroyed their tombstones, assuming that they ever had any, and they are now listed on replacement stones as "early settlers". If you have any information on this couple, please write to me.

I really hate to bother you all with this, but I hit a document ont the net that proves our name went from Bauer to Bowers..... ie: ? descendant of Jacob Bauer (Bowers) as follows: 1. Jacob Steese (1820-81) m 1860 Amanda M Bowers (1834-1904) 2. John R Bowers (1794-1851) m 1818 Barbara Myers (1798-1904) 3. Jacob Bowers m 1782 Anna Rohrer (1764-1846) Jacob Bowers (1754-1825) enlisted, 1775, in Capt Cresap's company, Maryland Line, and 1777, served in the Penna Line, engaged in the battles of Brandywine, Trenton, Princeton, Germantown, Monmouth and Long Island. In 1839 his widow applied for a pension, which was allowed. He WAS BORN IN LANCASTER COUNTY, PA., died in Uniontown, Ohio..... I don't mean to be a bore, but I think now I can go in the direction I believe you first pointed to.... ie: look for my gg/gfather Jacob Bowers to be born of parents BAUER..... The only thing is, I don't know how or where to begin..... my Jacob was born 13 Oct 1812..... Where do you think I should look to find a baby born on that date in Lancaster County?..... I sure would appreciate any/all help you might be able to extend..... even if you could point me in the right direction, I would be ever grateful.... Thanks for your time..... GENERAL JOHN REYNOLDS: Searching for names and birthdates of the children of two brothers of Civil War General John Fulton Reynolds. One brother, Admiral William Reynolds 1815-1879), married Rebecca Krug. The other, Samuel Moore Reynolds (1814-1888) married Elizabeth Van Horn. William had children and Samuel presumably did too, but the childrens' names are unkown. Samuel's place of death is even unkown. One missing child is believed to be attorney and poet J. Mason Reynolds (probably John or James), who moved to Belmont, Michigan around 1870, married Hannah, and died young in 1891. Which brother was J. Mason's father is of enormous importance to the very few descendants of this Lancaster family.
