- I am interested in any information on Jason HITCHINGS b.1844 in Wales
d. Aug.25, 1900 in Punxsutawney, PA Jefferson County m. c1860's to
Esther DAVIES b.Nov.13, 1847 in Wales d. July 19, 1924 in
Punxsutawney,PA Jefferson County. They were living in North
Houtzdale,Clearfield County in the 1880 census. They bought land in
Brisbin in Nov. 1887. In the 1880 census of North Houtzdale, Clearfield
County, 5 children were listed. They later had 3 more children, all born
in Brisbin. I know they were living in Punxsutawney in 1900.Jason was a
coal miner and I have been told that he was a part time minister of the
old Welsh Church in Brisbin. I have his old Welsh pulpit Bible printed
in 1854, written in Welsh. I believe 1 or 2 of their children may have
died in Brisbin and buried there since there is no record of them after
1879. Any information on anyone named HITCHINGS from this area would be
most appreciated. The names of the children are: Margaret b.1868, Mary
b. 1870, Sadoc b. May 30,1874, David b. 1879, John b. July 9, 1885,
Malgwin b.?, Talmadge b. Oct. 2, 1888.

KITCHEN, MAGILL
posted by Eric Magill on Tuesday, July 8,

- I am researching my family history and have only been able to get to
my great grandfather, John Leroy MAGILL, with any significant
information. John Leroy was born in Baxter, Clover Township, Jefferson
County, to William and May Moore MAGILL in 1879 and moved to DuBois,
Clearfield County, in 1892 at the age of 13. He eventually married Emma
DINGER on 2/22/1900. He was a foreman at John E. DuBois and Rockwell and
a member of Lakeside Methodist Church. He died 3/22/1958 and she died
6/3/50. My grandfather was Earl Lance MAGILL, who grew up in DuBois,
went to Indiana (Pa.) University, taught in DuBois schools for many
years, and eventually became supervisor of Elementary Education. He was
married to Mabel IRWIN. He died 11/10/1986. My grandfather's brothers
and sisters included Florence Kitchen, who married S.R. KITCHEN of
Kitchen's Dairy. His brothers were Mike "Purl" Magill and
Allen Magill. His sisters were Helen and Winifred. My father is Earl
Leroy Magill. He attended DuBois schools and became a United Methodist
Minister. He graduated from DuBois High School in the late 1950s and is
probably best remembered there for his drumming abilities. If anyone has
any information on this family before my grandfather, I'd appreciate it.
I'm especially interested in info on my great great grandfather William,
who it would seem moved to DuBois in 1892 when my great grandfather John
Leroy was 13 years old. I would especially like to hear from anyone who
might know where my great great grandfather William was buried. Thank
you in advance.
