Biography
THOMPSON FAMILY, KNOX TOWNSHIP, JEFFERSON COUNTY, PA
Sylvester Thompson and his brother James purchased 50 acres of land in Knox Township in 1869. At some point, they migrated their families from Harford County, Maryland to their new home. James and his wife returned to Maryland several years later, but Sylvester and his family stayed. Sylvester's daughter, Ida Elizabeth Thompson, was the last family member to live on the property in Knox Township. We have talked to older folks in the area who recall going to the old "Sis" Thompson property in the early 1900's to pick huckleberries.
Sylvester also had a brother William Thompson, who lived on his own property in the vicinity of Knox Township, Jefferson County, PA.
Sylvester's property remains in our family today. At one time, it was cleared and farmed. Today, it is wooded and we enjoy going there frequently to camp during the summer months.
Sylvester Thompson, 1838-1915
- We believe he was born in Harford County, MD.
- Married Rebecca Jane Johnson, 1859, in Chanceford Township, York County, PA. She died in 1892, Knox Township, Jefferson County, PA.
- Sylvester died in 1915 in Knox Township, Jefferson County, PA. He and his wife are buried at what is now the Methodist Church in Ramsaytown.

- He is buried in St. John's cemetery in Rose Township, Jefferson County, PA.- Married Mary M. Miller (1833-1900) on 25 SEP 1851 in Hopewell Township, York County, PA. Mary died in Knox Township, Jefferson County, PA in 1900.
