Biography

Josiah Rittenhouse came to the United States from Germany and moved the family to Jefferson County. John Bell Rittenhouse married Margaret Jane Bee had a farm in Jefferson County, Bell Twp. He was expert timber estimator and also made is living as a blacksmith. He and Margaret had ten children. William Ressler, who died in a coal mining accident in Canoe Twp in 1896, Charles, my great grandfather who later moved to Ohio, Luther, who died at Big Run, Jefferson County, Elizabeth who married George H. Jeffries, who was a sheriff of Indiana, and they had 13 children, David, Harvey, who opend a store in Brockwayville, John, Etta, who married Ward Smith, Clara and Okive, who married Aquilla Smiley.

Harvey was born in Grant Twp, Inidana Cty. He could do farm work, had training in mechanics and did assit with the blacksmith work. He married Mabel Yeager, daughter of William and Rachel Yeager. They had five childre, Marget Ruth, William Carl, Glen Harvey, Donald Ralph and Raymond Dale.

Harvey bought the grocery business that had been run by Longwell Bros. He added stock and other merchandise. He was a member of the United Brethrn Church and also held a membership in the Mason's Ridgeway Lodge No 379.
