Biography

William & Sarah (Hollowbough) Gumbert moved to Jefferson County from Armstrong County, Pa. sometime between 1840 and 1850. (William was born in 1799 in Westmoreland County, PA.) William's previous wife was a Margaret Peck or Baker. Margaret died in 1830 in Armstrong County giving birth to her eighth child, Henry. (Henry served in the 103rd Pennsylvania, Company D. He was captured in Plymouth, North Carolina in April of 1864. He died in Andersonville Prison in June, 1864.) Sarah and Willam had 7 children before packing up and leaving for the state of Wisconsin in 1855. All 8 of William and Margaret's children stayed in the state of Pennsylvania.
