Grandfather Jesse Merriman, of Jones county, Iowa, is 80 years old, but happier than ever a boy was. His wife presented him a few days ago with a bouncing pair of twins.

Executors' Notice

Letters testamentary on the estate of Wm. A. Cummin of Young township, Indiana county, dec'd, have been granted the undersigned. Notice all persons indebted to said estate to make immediate payment, and to those having claims against the same, to present them duly authenticated for settlement.

Death of an Old Citizen

On Monday last, George Shryock, for many years a citizen of this place, but lately residing in Oil City, passsed away. For a long term of years he acted as clerk in the commissioners' office, and was afterwards elected county commissioner. During the whole time of his public service he was noted for his uprightness and integrity. For the last few years he has been suffering from an asthmatic affection, from which disease he died. The remains of deceased arrived here on the evening train last night and were interred to-day.


Instantly Killed

A most distressing accident, resulting in the death of a son of Mr. Downey, of Chambersville, this county, occured on Friday, Decembeer 26th. Mr. Downey is a blacksmith, and at the time of the accident was engaged in ironing a sled. The sled was standing on its side, and the lad was attempting to climb to the top of it, when it fell, throwing the boy to the floor and the whole weight of the sled struck the head of the prostrate child, killing him instantly. Deceased was aged about seven years, and his terrible and untimely death wrung the hearts of his parents and neighbors.

Fergus - Patterson - On Wednesday December 17th, 1873, by the Rev. Wm. S. Owens, Samuel Fergus, of Washington county, Pa., to Miss Mary E. Patterson, of Indiana county.

Fee - Allison - Thursday, December 18th, 1873, by the same. Andrew Fere to Miss Nancyl L. Allison, both of Indiana county.

Cunningham - McQuaide - On Tuesday, December 23d, 1873, by the Rev. D. Harbison, at the residence of the bride's uncle, Mr Samuel Guthrie. Mr. R.H. Cunningham, of Indiana county, to Miss Sadie J., daughter of Thomas K. McQuaide, of Salem twp., Westmoreland county, Pa.

Bowser - Pierce - On Monday Dec., 22nd, 1873, by Daniel Weaver, Esq., at the residence of the bride's mother, Mr. Isaac Bowser, of Jefferson co., to Anna Piearce of Banks twp., Indiana county.

McFeaters - Roberts - On Christmas day, by Rev. B. Shields Sloan, at the residence of the bride's mother, Mr. Thomas S. McFeaters to Miss Anna R. Roberts, all of Indiana county, Pa.

Emigh - Empfield - On New Year's day, by the same, at the residence of the bride's mother. Prof. O.C. Emigh, of Freeport, Pa., to Miss Sarah E. Empfield of Greenville, Pa.

Thompson - Dehavens - On the 1st inst., at the residence of the bride's father, by Wm. G. Lewis, Esq., B. Thompson, to Elizabeth Dehavens, all of Banks twp., this county.

Fetterman - Niel - On the 1sst inst., at Locust Lane, by the same, Alex. Fetterman to Louisa Niel, all of Banks twp. this county.

DIED

Clark - On the 4th inst., of croup, Minnie Vista, eldest daughter of A.B. and M.L. Clark, aged 4 years 6 months and 29 days.
And when the morning's happier light
Its glory shall restore.
These eyelids that are sealed in death
Shall wake to close no more.

Fair - on the 24th of December, 1873, of apoplexy, Catharine, wife of Wm. Fair of Cherryhill township.

Rough - on the 26th of December, Jacob Rough, of Blacklick tp., aged 58 years.

Kaylor - On the 15th of ult., at her residence in Elderton, Mrs. Bella L. Kaylor, wife of James Kaylore, aged 18 years, 4 months and 7 days.


A Wild Cat of immense proportions was killed in Brushvaley township, a couple of weeks ago.
