TOBY or TOBY VALLEY is located at the base of Thompson Hill coming from Dagus Mines. The origin of the name of this valley is not known, but is supposed to have come from a vagrant healer named Tobias, called "Toby". The creek that runs through Toby is called the Little Toby Creek, and was very important to the early settlers of Fox Township. Farming and mining were important in Toby, and there were many privately owned mines, and a good number of general stores. The Toby Methodist Church sits on the hill near the turnoff to Kyler’s Corners. There is also a fascinating old school house sitting next to the Toby Church that I have been dieing to explore for years!
