Generation No. 1

1. CONRAD² MOYER , SR. (LEONARD¹) was born 1792 in Northhampton County, PA, and died September 11, 1878 in Fox Twp., Elk County, PA. He married ELIZABETH OTTO 1810 in Centre County, PA.

Notes for CONRAD MOYER , SR.:
Conrad Moyer, Sr. came to Elk County, PA from Centre County, PA in 1823. He bought one hundred acres of timberland in Fox Township. There were no mills for miles around , so the trees were cut, rolled into piles and burned to clear the land for farming. Some logs were used to build the house, barns, and other buildings. After moving to Elk County, Conrad, Sr. became a Teamster. He traveled from Ridgway, to Freeport, Kittanning and Waterson's Ferry. In addition, he made a trip down the river to Pittsburgh for supplies, which included a barrel of whiskey, the years supply. Conrad had an interesting encounter with Iroquis Indians on one of these trips.

The name MOYER was spelled a number of different ways: Mayer, Meyer, Moier, etc. Conrad Sr. himself said the name was originally spelled MAYER.

Conrad and Elizabeth (Otto) Moyer were Presbyterians after they came to Elk County, PA. Their last two children were the only ones born in Elk County, PA, the others having been born near Rebersburg in Centre County, PA.

The following was taken from the "Matricul" or Birth and Baptism record of the Lutheran and Reformed Union Church, Rebersburg, Centre County, PA:

MEYER, Conrad, and wife Elizabeth- their son Jacob, born May 13, 1813, baptised July 18, 1813. SPONSORS: Daniel Otto and wife Barbara.

MEYER, Conrad and wife Elisabeth- their daughter Elizabeth, born November 30, 1814, baptised January 1, 1815 by a Minister Ilgen. SPONSORS: Michael Schefer and wife Margreth.

MEYER, Konrad and wife Elizabeth- their daughter Catharina, born December 23, 1815, baptized March 3, 1816. SPONSORS: Catharina Meyer.

Conrad and Elizabeth (Otto) Moyer had the distinction of being among the first settlers here in Fox Township, Elk County, PA. Their descendents today number in the thousands all over the United States.

August 05, 1821, Centre County, PA; d. January 12, 1906, Toby, Fox Twp., Elk County, PA. 4. vi. CONRAD MOYER, JR., b. March 10, 1824, Kersey, Fox Twp., Elk County, PA; d. February 02, 1911, Fox Twp., Elk County, PA ( Ridge Cemetery). 5. vii. JOSEPH MOYER, b. May 31, 1830, Kersey, Fox Twp., Elk County, PA; d. March 31, 1871, Kersey, Fox Twp., Elk County, PA.

2. JOHN³ MOYER (CONRAD², LEONARD¹) was born 1819 in Centre County, PA. He married MARTHA COLEMAN, daughter of ISAAC COLEMAN and CLARISSA PAULLEY.

Children of JOHN MOYER and MARTHA COLEMAN are:

i. MANVERS MOYER. ii. EMMA MOYER.

3. ELIAS³ MOYER (CONRAD², LEONARD¹) was born August 05, 1821 in Centre County, PA, and died January 12, 1906 in Toby, Fox Twp., Elk County, PA. He married CATHERINE HAYS December 1842 in Clearfield County, PA, daughter of EDWARD HAYS and CATHERINE GELNETT.

Notes for CATHERINE HAYS: All of Elias "Uncle El" and Catherine " Aunt Cass" Moyer's children died young, however, Daniel was alive on the 1850 census.

4. CONRAD³ MOYER , JR. (CONRAD², LEONARD¹) was born March 10, 1824 in Kersey, Fox Twp., Elk County, PA, and died February 02, 1911 in Fox Twp., Elk County, PA ( Ridge Cemetery). He married SARAH TAYLOR June 25, 1845 in Fox Twp., Elk County, PA, daughter of DAVID TAYLOR and ELIZABETH KRIEGER.

5. JOSEPH³ MOYER (CONRAD², LEONARD¹) was born May 31, 1830 in Kersey, Fox Twp., Elk County, PA, and died March 31, 1871 in Kersey, Fox Twp., Elk County, PA. He married SARAH ANN HAYS, daughter of EDWARD HAYS and CATHERINE GELNETT.
