EARLEYVILLE is the name given to a very small, now non-existant town just outside of Kersey on Route 948 heading toward Ridgway. Today the only thing that marks its existance is the Earlyville Cemetery. This little village was laidout in 1865 by Dr. Charles Earley, who opened a coal seam here. P.W. Hays also had a general store in Earlyville. Thomas Copella operated the steam engine. He became a Major in World War I, married a Phillipine woman, and died in the Phillipines.
