EARLEY, MOHAN, WELSCH posted by Teresa Earley on Wednesday, March 1, 2000

I just found some information that stated that my GGGrandmother was born to a John (or Jean) WELSCH, who was killed in the Civil War. At that time, Mary Ellen Welsch was adopted by a "Mrs. MOHAN" of Elk County and became Mary Ellen Mohan. She was born in 1862 in Canada, but apparently lived her early life in Elk Co. She was adopted by the Mohan's in 1864 and naturalized at that same time. Mary Ellen later married Dr. Marshall James EARLEY and gave birth to three children. I believe she was a Catholic. I believe that she also had a sister, but I do not have a first name for her sister.
I would appreciate any information concerning the Mohan's and how they would have come to adopt Mary Ellen and/or her sister. Thank you!.

MANN, OLIVER, WEIGEL posted by PatPowers Schle on Monday, March 13, 2000

OLIVER: In McKean or Erie: 1850 Eliza 33, Harriet 11 ... Eliza m(c1849) Samuel WEIGEL (w/o Catherine MANN). 1850 census listed Eliza WEIGEL and "other person in home" was Harriet OLIVER 11. Ergo, I'm assuming Eliza was Harriet's mother. ???
Really hoping someone finds something familiar here or has better access to a marriage file listing Eliza & Samuel.

SCHNEBERGER posted by Audrey Nitz on Saturday, March 18, 2000

Apparently George Schneberger came to Elk co. about 1842. It doesn't appear that he was married at that time. The family says his wife's name was Walburga. In the early 1850's I find him with a wife by the name of Margaret or Margaretha. At the same time he buys land and is naturalized a man I presume is his son Joseph Schneberger is also naturalized. Later a man Micheal Schneberger is naturalized and later has a daughter whom he names Walburga. George has two sons named George. In 1856 he is living in Winneshiek Co. Iowa where my grandmother ( his granddaughter) was born. Does anyone else fit into these families?
