High School Commencement

Transcribed and submitted by Beverly Carter

Thursday Evening last this event took place in the Penfield Presbyterian church. The audience was large and attentive. Enjoyable songs by soloists and choir were sung. The prayer was offered by Rev. F. G. Sleep. Lottie C. Scofield of the graduating class presented an essay on Youth as the time for Preparation. She was listened to attentively.

A. Clyde Conklin the other graduate of 1901 spoke an Oration on the Excellence of Labor. The young man was well prepared and spoke with ease and power. H. L. Horning, of the School Board made a vigorous address on Education. Principle W. E. Tobias then made the annual address on How to Educate. His ideas were practical and were well received. In a neat speech Geo. Rufus Smith, of the Alumni, gave a floral offering to the graduates. Rev. D. Caldwell made the closing prayer.
