BEERS, BUCK, MAYS, OSCHALL, SOWDERS, YOUNGS posted by William Beers on Saturday, April 21, 2001

In researching my family's migration from Clearfield Co, PA to Iowa, I've noticed a number of Clearfield Co, surnames showing up in Iowa on the 1870 census: Buck, Shimmel, Read, Reed, Oschall, Krise, Schaffer, Hummel
I've double checked these names and found them in Poweshiek, Tama, Linn, and Jasper counties in Iowa. It would seem that a large number of Clearfield residents moved west to Iowa and beyond just after the Civil War. Has anyone else found migrations west? Thanks to Larry V. Buck I know that my great uncle moved to Seward Co, Nebraska

DIXON, FRY, GRAFFIUS, GRAHAM, KEPHART, MOORE, PACE posted by June Dixon on Friday, April 27, 2001

I'm trying to find information on the Fry, Graffius, Graham, Kephart, Dixon, Pace (could be Pase?) and Moore families of Clearfield County. My Fry relatives are descended from Daniel Stennard Fry, who was born in Indiana, PA in 1834 or 1835. My Moore relatives are descended from Oliver Moore and Catherine Perry (married 1840) of Lycoming County. I am especially searching for information on Susannah Pace or Pase, married name Maines, who was my great-great grandmother. The only information I have on her is that she supposedly came from Germany when she was 2 and had sisters, Sarah and Lilly, and a brother, Issac. Her daughter was Mildred Maines, who died in 1932 in Clearfield. I would also be very happy to share any information I have on these families.
