The Baltzer Meyer Historical Society has established itself in the old Harrold Zion Lutheran Church (1884 - 1955)

Housed in the BMHS Center are:

Paul Miller Ruff Library - Our research library, containing all of the works of Rev. Paul Miller Ruff, cemetery readings, family histories, obituaries, funeral home records, and local histories

Publishing - We bind our own books (softcover with spiral binding) at BMHS. You can contact publishing if you wish to purchase one of our publications, or if you are interested in having BMHS publish your family history or cemetery reading.

Harrold Hall - This is our social hall, where we hold our monthly meetings, dinners, and special occasions.

Baltzer Meyer Historical Society is currently accepting the following items:

Genealogy Library

  • Family Histories or copies of them
  • Diaries and Journals relating to Westmoreland County and surrounding counties
  • Family Photographs with indentifications
  • Church Records (we can make copies)
  • Historical publications relating to Westmoreland County and surrounding counties
  • Photographs of Log or stone structures with their locations
  • Maps and tract drawings or eary landowners in Westmoreland and surrounding counties

Industry Documents and Artifacts

  • Photographs showing industries and their locations
  • Photographs of coal mines and mining-related activities
  • Maps prepared by utility companies
  • Surveyors' field books
  • Mercantile ledgers
  • Journals of any early businesses/letters/early documents
  • Information regarding the Hogl/Bach brewery in Greensburg
  • Railroad maps, bridges, photographs
  • Artifacts relating to the coal mining/coke oven era
  • Artifacts from early industries

Photographs can be scanned at our facilities and returned to the donor.
